Mocking Jay (The Best Thing About The Book)

In the book Mocking Jay I can make a text to world connection because district 12 is kind of like Africa because both are poor and in need of something. Also the United States is like district 1 or 2 because they are on the top with the most money.  In the book I am reading there is a character Katniss who is hated because of being the spark of revolution. A text to text connection is that in the Harry Potter series Harry is disliked by many people because he is the chosen one in the book just like Katniss in Mocking Jay. A text to self-connection is that Katniss has to face her own fears along her way in the books. This can be connected to myself in the book because I also have to face my own fears in life like trying new things or say doing a flip that I have never attempted before. These both connect in very similar ways and are demonstrated long term throughout each of their different scenarios

Mocking Jay (setting)

In the book the time the setting taking place at is in the future because of the hover crafts and high advanced technology they have in the book. I have read the first and second book and they both illustrate this same time. In the book I have found out that katniss is in the middle of the hunger games which are taking place in an arena designed to be a dangerous jungle that is operated and controlled by the game maker’s in the capitol. Katniss also finds out that most of tributes in the hunger Games were all working together to help keep her alive. The book takes place in a place where there are twelve districts that are in poverty and there is a capitol that has all the power that forces people form the districts to fight in the death. This is the same for both the other two books. Currently in the book Katniss has been taken out of the games by a hover craft with her and Haymitch and others that tell her when she wakes up about a plan they set up in the last book. Katniss is told the districts are on the edge of rebelling and that the districts are out of hand ad there is many forces being used to control the riots. The districts are filled with hope and the smell of fear from the capitol.

In the book I found out that the society is different from the one in the past which would be considered agrees. I found out that the fire fighters in this book instead of putting out fires catch book on fire and make them. This ties into how the society is controlled in the book. I don’t know much about who is running the people but I know that they don’t want them to read books for a reason. In the book protagonist guy Montag starts to figure out that he is not happy with himself and starts to question why he has to burn books. He begins to question the burning of books when Clarisse ask him if he is happy. Clarisse in the story I found out is a strange girl compared to everyone else. She has different thoughts on the earth and feels that the way people live now is not right. Later in the reading Clarisse is told to be dead from being hit by a car.  Mildred Guy Montage wife is found almost dead overdosing on her sleep medicine when Montag gets home from meeting Clarisse. I think that this book connects a little bit with the hunger games because there society is also run in a deranged way where people are forced to compete in killing games and that everyone is in poverty because of a war that was in the pass from a rebellion. The people in the hunger games can connect to how the people in Fahrenheit feel because they really don’t have a says much in the society and do whatever the rulers want them to just like the capitol is in the Hunger Games. Really both books have both not the right society and there are protagonist in the books that are trying to fix it and make it right.

                My blog meets the requirement in the rubric because I talk about the possible theme in the book and I mention it multiple times when reading the book. Also in the book I talk about certain characters and how they change in emotion and how there self as a whole changes throughout the novel. I really keep track of Katniss in Peeta when the games begin and when they end because you can see a difference of how they developed into new people. I also draw analysis many times when making my blog by looking back at my prediction and comparing all the details to come up with well thought out analysis of the story. In the above post you can see how I start to look at characters and they connect with each other. Also you can see how I start to form an analysis and theme of the book.

Goals I have next trimester for reading is that I can try to read two books instead of one and develop a plan so that I read every night for a certain amount of time. Next trimester I could work on my writing by maybe adding more detail about the subject is am talking about. Also I think that I could work on getting on the blog more and so that I make sure I have a certain number of blogs each week. Areas of improvement I want to work on are finding better connection to the story to add to my blog. Writing I think I could work on adding maybe quote’s from the story and really giving the reader more detail about the characters in the book. One thing I struggled with through the experience is making sure after I read I sit down and write the blog as soon as possible so I can remember all of the important details in the last reading. I overcome this struggle by making sure my book and my lap top were in the same spot all the time so when I got done reading I pick up the computer and started writing. One strength I had in blogging was that I really told the reader what was happening in the story in my reading and how the characters and I felt. I also think I did a good job at making predictions and writing lots of work so that reader could really get a sense about what was happening in the book. In the example post it shows how I start to look at the characters and see how they compare to each other and developed a theme and analysis of the story.

Over all the book was great. I did not expect what happen in the end of the book to happen because I thought there was no way around there being one winner of the games. This book had lots of good action and was great to read. I am looking forward to reading the next book so I can  get to know what happens after Katniss and Peeta do after making it back to victor village. I would give this book a five out  of five because it kept my attention when reading it the whole time.

In the morning the announcer comes on says now there can not be two winners anymore and that there has to be one for the games. Peeta then thinks that he should kill himself for the sake of katniss. Katniss does not let him she come up with the idea that they could kill there selves so then there would be no winner to the games at all. This connects to Romeo and Juliet because they also kill there self's over love for each other. But at the last moment before Katniss and Peeta eat the poisonous Berries the announcer comes on and says that they both win because there has to be a winner. this angers the capitol because it is showing that just two people and can out rule them and boss them around. Katniss and Peeta are taken from he arena and cleaned up and get to go to there new houses in victor village with there family's. Katniss gets back home and get to see all of her family and the same with Peeta. There is still a big tension between the capitol and Peeta and Katniss but for now all is good for the two as they start there new life's.

At the end of the feast Katniss makes it out alive and finds herself closer to the end. a character that has a great chance at winning had dies during the feast. the only character left in the game was Cato who was fearless person who had trained for the games. he was left of the carriers and was on the look fro Peeta and Katniss. When Katniss gets the medicine to Peeta he feels much better and can soon walk again on his leg. Since Cato trained for the games he wanted to win really bad and show pride to his district. Now that Peeta was back to health and so was Katniss there chances  of them winning was much higher then before. I predict that Peeta and  Katniss will kill Cato's so that they can share the victory of the games and so they can make it out alive.

Katniss and Peeta are hidden in a cave and are sitting there getting back to health but Peeta is still has badly injured slash mark in his leg. The arena announces a giant feast that says if you come tonight to the starting point of the games there would be something for the compeers that they all need personally. Also the3 announcer says that there ahs been a change I the games and that two competitors could win if they are from the same district. Katniss needs that medicine for Peetas leg to help heal the wound. she waits for Peeta to fall asleep and without telling him she heads to the center to get the stuff. in the book this is really dangerous because there also a few competitors left that also need stuff and it is dangerous going out in the middle where you are vulnerable to attack. I think that Katniss will  get badly injured getting the medicine for Peeta but I don't think she will die. Also in the book I the book I think there will be more tributes to die from the feast. the whole main point of having the feast was so that the capitol could eliminate more of the people to bring the people to each other so they would all go at it.

Katniss and Peeta now team up after katniss finds Peeta badly injured hidden in the mud with his great camouflaging skills he got from making cakes from being a baker back in the district. Katniss was very glad to see Peeta and so was Peeta when seeing Katniss. I thought about the whole situation the story and I think that Katniss does actually have some feelings for Peeta and is not just playing the lovey dove  stuff as in act for the capitol and the peoples entertainment. Now I actually think that Katniss is in love. Also Katniss could of killed Peeta right then and there but she didn't. In the book I thought that Peeta needed Katniss more then Katniss needed Peeta because of the bad condition Peeta is in and how he is useless without having a hunting background like Katniss does. Also I am predicting now that Peeta will kill him self in the end of the story or some how Peeta will die because there hast to be one winner and I think that Katniss will make it farther then Peeta would and since he loves her  he would kill himself so she could live.

Katniss and rue now developed a relationship in the arena an it really shows in the next chapters I read in my book. In the game Katniss helps Rue out by feeding her getting her food and making her feel more comfortable being the youngest competitor in the game. Also Katniss and rue start to feel for each other and really get o have great bonding experience being together. In the book I did not expect that later Rue would die from a thrown spear straight at her chest. Katniss is badly affected through this scene and happens to kill the kid with an arrow right through his neck. Katniss shows her great feelings through the game by barring rue with flowers and showing to the people of the capitol/districts how the games are wrong and that people should not have to be put through times like this. Also this sparks some of districts into rebellions.  I now beleave that the whole theme of the book is standing up for what is moraly right and facing standing up against authority.The capitol now sees Katniss more of a threat to the district and games and feel that she should be eliminated.

In the book right now the characters are really developing relationships among them all. Katniss seems to be teaming up with the girl rue that help her escaped and saved her from being killed by the gang/carrers. Then also you see that Peeta also developed and chose to be with the gang/carrers which might have also broken the relationship with him and Katniss in the game. Also Peeta developing a relationship with the gang really made Katniss get confused and rethink what she how she should play the game. Also in my last reading i find out that Peeta help Katniss get to safety after she dropped the nest of wasp on the gang. This tells Katniss that Peeta does care about her and there is still some trust in him. I predict that Peeta and Katniss are going to team up in the game.

Katniss in the book gets chased by the gang of people that formed together in the begining of the games. kattniss is schocked becasue she sees Peter in the gang and feels angry. She finally finds safety in a tree and none of them can get her and they for to come down over the night. While katniss is up in the tree she finds the girl Rue in another tree that she saw before in the rtraining area. Rue helps katbiss by pointing to the tracker jacker which was a deadly wasp like creature that is mutated. KAtniss eventually knocks the nest of tracker jackers out of the tree and it lands on the gang and they flee giving katniss window to flee the trap she was in. This really shows the relationship now for Katniss and peter becasue it shows how they can be some how in a love hate relationship.

           

In my book the hunger games the games have started and Katniss already approaches a problem when trying to get to the bow. Instead of running towards the bow she takes the safe way out and grabs a bag closer to her with supply in it and runs into the woods. On the way to getting to safety she gets cut on her face and a little injured from the start of the game. Luckily she uses her senses and travels long that day up the mountain to find a stream and food source from the arena. Katniss skills in the woods from her regular life really help her out during the beginning of the games by knowing how to start a fire and find food. Immediately when night comes she hears the cannons that sound when people in the arena have been eliminated. She takes track of the cannons to see how many people are left.

Summary of Reading Hunger Games

In the book Peeta tells the people of the capitol about how Katniss and her love each other, this makes Katniss mad because she never agreed to the pan of saying that and no feels that will make the competition harder. Peeta and Haymitch disagree about the whole idea and think it will help because then there will be more sponsors during the game. I think that Haymitch and peeta are right because the people are going to want them to be move on through out the games and stay a live as lovers and survive.

Summary of Reading Hunger Games

Before the games start you get a score for yourself that tells the people what level you are at being the best in the arena and it is important to get a good number so you can get sponsors that will help you during the games and so that you can use them to your advantage. Katniss was very scared because she shot and arrow towards the game makers when it was her turn to get her score calculated by them and she thought she might of been punished. Later katniss finds out her score is and 11 out of 12 which is really high. Katniss was happy because of her score  the odds were in her favors before the games starts.

Book Recommendations Hunger Games

This book is a great book for readers who want excitement, adventure, and action. you wont put don the book as soon as you pick it up. This book "The Hunger Games" is good t making you feel like you are inside the story living the action your self. This book is not much of a mystery book so if you are into that then don't bother reading. Also if you are into science fiction and future theme based books then this is right up your alley. This book also involve a little bit of love inn it between different characters in the book like katniss, gale, and peter. so if you are even into the lovey stories then this would even work for you too. also this book leaves you hanging on the edge at every moment when the contestants enter the arena and it even shows you how the odds might be in your favor but you'll just have to find out.

The theme of this story starts a little bit in the beginning of the book because it shows how the citizens in the  districts are separated form the people in the capitol. this is another way of describing how there is inequality from the rich and the poor. you can tell this is the theme in the book because in the story katniss and the citizens in a way are bullied by the capitol which are the rich class of people who make the lower class that are poor compete in the games as entertainment but also for the reminder of what the districts used to be when there was and up roar among the citizens and the capitol. Katniss and most of the peoples life's in the districts are rough because there main role in life is to survive and keep the generation going and provide entertainment for the capitol even though they say it is a reminder of what used to be and to never happen again. when katniss goes to the capitol she really sees the difference between the rich and the poor because as a lower class citizen her self being treated so highly and fortunately she realizes even more that the system that is being run through out the hole districts and capitol is wrong and that no one is treated equally.

In the book so far katnisses sister prim got picked to be in the games to fight to the death. katniss took her place ad is now going to compete in the hunger games. sense katniss hunts for food to get food for her family she has a advantage because she knows how to use a bow witch I think will mostly likely help her later in the game. Also katniss is relating a lot to the mocking jay pin on the front of the book that I thought would be important in the story. I also think katniss is mad  because there will be no one there to take care of prim because her mother does not work and she can do little  to help getting food for the two of them while katniss is gone. I also think gale will try his hardest to keep prim and her mother safe while katniss is gone because he knows they might not ever meet again.

I am reading the Hunger Games. I think in this book that there is going to be a war  between kids and people to fight to the death. now from reading the beginning of the book i predict that katniss is going to be caught hunting in the woods by the authoritys and aslo when the ditrict is going to have the reaping and i think that katniss is going to be picked for the games. i aslo think that some time in the book gale is going to die becasue katniss really talks about how much she likes gale. Also i am making a long term prediction by saying that i think katniss is going to win the games.  from looking at the front cover of the book i can tell the mocking jay is going to be represent something important in the book.
